Question 1

What is the difference in buying second hand, pre-owned or refurbished?

Accepted Answer

At Hungry PC we source quality, ex-lease business grade tech, not just old e-waste! Every unit is individually tested and cleaned, inside and out, with worn components replaced or upgraded as necessary to bring these systems a new lease on life. Used tech devices require a high level of professional servicing to ensure longevity and give you the best value possible. Our expert technicians with over 15 years experience place an extensive QA process to ensure the physical hardware is operating effectively as close to new as it can be. Often due to our processes, the upgrades we fit to these desktop and tower PCs make them function better than when they were brand new.

Why risk the problems of a completely unknown condition, pre-owned device that has never been serviced? You get much better value, longevity and certainty from a properly refurbished device.

Question 2

What condition are your refurbished laptops in?

Accepted Answer

Every laptop we stock has been restored, tested and renewed to A Grade quality before they are offered for sale (unless otherwise stated). Any faults or major cosmetic damages are listed and specifically noted on each product description where necessary, and are sold at a discounted rate as a lower grade option for those who wish to save some more money.

Question 3

Can you install Linux or other Operating System Versions?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Your choice of Operating System version or distribution is installed fresh with latest Security Updates and Drivers. We can load Linux at no extra cost with your order! Simply select your preferred option from the Accessories / Upgrades section and we'll ensure your machine is fully loaded with your ideal Operating System choice. Please note: This free service will add a little extra time to process your order. As Linux is a community supported operating system, driver/software support for Linux is at your own risk.

Question 4

Accepted Answer

Question 5

How long does the laptop battery run for?

Accepted Answer

Each laptop comes with a used battery that will still hold a charge and has been tested to last at least one hour or more during full-load stress testing . The vast majority of our laptops offer a very reasonable battery life and under normal use they often will last significantly longer than when they are undergoing a full-load stress test. Battery Health Definition Tested OK / Fair - Battery holds a charge and passes our full-load stress test for at least one hour, likely to last longer but has not been tested any further. Good - Will easily play a full HD YouTube or Netflix Movie at Normal Brightness for 2 hours or more. During less intensive tasks like Word Processing they are likely to last longer. Excellent - Battery would typically last at least 3-4 hours of playing non-stop YouTube or Netflix movies back-to-back, and likely to last significantly longer during normal use such as web browsing. Brand New - Battery has been replaced with a brand new one to offer its full capacity. Due to their nature, battery life varies significantly between each unit we have in stock. We also test each laptop to perform flawlessly when connected to the power. Laptops do not require the battery to be charged whilst plugged in to the charger and can be used all day while plugged in. The power is in your hands! Choose to save money with the used battery, or if a longer battery life is required, we can supply a new battery replacement with free installation. Since used batteries are a consumable like printer ink or car tires, they are not covered by warranty. If you do require an extra long battery life, simply add the new battery option with your purchase. Beware of the "Battery Health Percentage" Myth . With years of experience in the industry, we've seen countless laptops with dead batteries that report an 80% health rating (or even more) via software tools. This is often a very unreliable way of testing a battery and during our customized testing procedure, they often won't even last ten minutes, fail our tests, and are then replaced. While others rely solely on this health rating to sell you a laptop, we instead decided to create this far more accurate test, so our customers can get a much better understanding of the battery condition and make an informed decision.

Will a refurbished laptop last as long as a new one?

Accepted Answer

We strive to source the highest quality, business grade, ex-lease laptops. Instead of selling ordinary consumer grade equipment, we focus on machines that are designed for the corporate world. These laptops have higher build quality, more reliable parts, and typically more powerful specifications . After our extensive testing process, we can be sure the laptop will last the test of time. We have had many customers return to us and buy computers years after their first purchase, as they were impressed with the reliability and want to upgrade to their next, newer, fancier and faster machine.

Question 8

Chromebook vs Windows: Which cheap laptop is right for me?

Accepted Answer

Choosing the right cheap laptop comes down to how you plan to use it. Chromebooks run on Google's lightweight operating system and rely heavily on the cloud, making them a solid choice if your daily routine is limited to web browsing, streaming, checking emails, and writing documents online. They start up quickly and are highly secure, with great battery life, but they cannot run standard Microsoft Windows software or handle heavy offline workloads. They are however ideal for school students and many BYOD schools specifically ask for them. In an education environment they offer an extremely affordable computing experience for students who do not need the extra capabilities of a Windows laptop. Windows laptops offer complete freedom and flexibility, allowing you to install any traditional desktop software from Microsoft Office to specialized school or business applications. While a brand-new cheap laptop running Windows can sometimes feel slow, choosing a high-quality Windows based refurbished laptop gives you premium business-grade performance and robust multitasking for the same low price. If you want a versatile all-rounder that handles offline tasks and grows with your needs, a dependable Windows machine is the smartest choice even if it costs a little more.
